On April 19, 1946, a charter was issued to the Omicron Iota Chapter of Westchester County. The charter members were Errold J. Collymore, Marcellus H. Goff, Neslie D. Gunthrope, Clarence M. Long, Malvin J. Proctor, Leon W. Scott, Roscoe C. Ward, and Arthur M. Williams. Omicron Iota Chapter was the first Black Greek Letter Organization chartered in Westchester County in 1946. Since its formation, the chapter has participated fully in all district and national programs. Omicron Iota was also the motivating force in establishing a chapter at Columbia University in 1967; the undergraduate chapter was Omicron Chapter.
Over the past 70 years, Omicron Iota Chapter has continued to be a thriving force in the Westchester County community by exemplifying Omega’s Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift and remaining active in the community through our Social Action initiatives. In 2014 & 2015, Omicron Iota Chapter was awarded the 2nd District “Small Chapter of the Year” & the 2nd District “Social Action Chapter of the Year” respectfully.
Two of the most notable Brothers from the Omicron Iota Chapter are Bro. Daniel Boddie, a founding member of the Association of Black Lawyers in Westchester County and served 10 years as the 2nd District Counselor & Bro. Louis Woodard "Lou" Jones – Olympic Gold Medalist (4x400 Relay).
With a focus on Manhood, the Brothers of Omicron Iota Chapter have been and will continue their responsibility to serve as mentors. Although we have several mentoring programs, the Uplifting Minds STEM Program & Young Achievers Program has allowed us to engage the youth and provide a comprehensive enriching experience for youth to develop self-esteem, respect for others, analytical & life skills. Also, by spending time with the youth on a regular basis and sharing our professional experiences in the many fields of S.T.E.M, Business, Law, and Politics, allows us to teach and introduce these young minds with knowledge that can help lay a strong foundation for future career choices.
In regards to Scholarship, over the last 60+ years, Omicron Iota Chapter has awarded scholarships to high school students throughout Westchester County who have expressed a desire to continue their education. Our fundraisers during the year give the Chapter an opportunity to expand our outreach to even more exceptional students by being a partner and contributor to the Westchester Black Scholars Program. For the last 17 years, Omicron Iota Chapter has held an Annual Scholarship Breakfast in June to acknowledge the top high school scholars in Westchester County that took part in Omicron Iota’s Scholarship Program.
Omicron Iota Chapter is proud to be a Life Member of the NAACP since 1967; through Perseverance, we continue to work towards political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights for all.
Throughout the year, from our Mother’s Day Brunch Program, where we honor Mothers for all that they do, to Thanksgiving & Christmas, where we have our Turkey Basket Program & Toy Drive, Omicron Iota Chapter continues to Uplift the people in the community through inspiration and encouragement.
All we have done is with great respect and honor to our Founders in the “True Omega Spirit” and our commitment to service will be everlasting; as we love Omega Dear.
